Tom's midnight garden by Phillipa Pearce

book

Why am I doing this web page? [you don't have to read this bit if you don't want to.]

I am doing this web page because my homework is to do a project on the book I am reading in my book club. My book club book is Tom's midnight garden, so I have decied to do a web page on it. I hope you enjoy it.
In 2007, Tom's midnight garden was elected the 2nd favourite book of the British nation.

Summary

This enchanting story begins when 12-year-old Tom goes to his aunt and uncle's house as his brother,Peter, gets the measles. He has to survive hours and days of boredom and rich, heavy meals. As he lies in bed awake after no going outside, he listens to Mrs Bartholomew's old grandfather clock,it strikes eleven....twelve.....thirteen! Thirteen times! And this is not a 24-hour clock, trust me. Tom goes downstairs to check the clock face but seems to find a magical garden in the place of the concrete bin area. His only-excisting-in-the-thirteenth-hour garden is filled with greenery and yew trees. He finds people in this garden. But are they ignoring him?

Rating

Goodreads rate this book 4.1 stars out of 5 star but Waterstones rate this book 5 stars out of 5 stars. I reccomend this book to someone with a taste of cheekiness and maybe to someone who likes children's books as Tom and Hatty are very childish. This book is set in the night period as well as, when Tom is not in the garden but in the flat, the day time.
